Montana Wyoming 2017 day five https://cmkdigitalmemories.zenfolio.com/blog/2017/10/montana-wyoming-2017-day-five All good things must come to an end, but what an ending it was! Today's quest to find more wildlife was a huge success to say the least. Black bear, herd after herd of bison, pronghorn, deer, coyote, mountain goat, elk, and finally a real treat - a moose!

Moose are scarce in the park as there only one hundred known to reside in YNP and we got lucky! Lamar Valley provided hours of excitement as sightings were frequent and the beautiful vistas were incredible.

Finally,I must say the photographs do not really share the beauty of Yellowstone National Park. It is the single most unbelievable, beautiful place I have ever had the opportunity to visit. Special thanks to our guide, Trent Sizemore for the education, opportunity, and experience of a lifetime. And also, last but certainly not least, thanks to my wonderful wife and best friend, as she made this all possible.

Montanawyomingdayfour https://cmkdigitalmemories.zenfolio.com/blog/2017/10/montanawyomingdayfour What a crazy weather day! Starting out with temps in 20s, heat wave up to 40s and then a nose dive creating snow for much of late afternoon. Coupled with a full moon week made finding the animals a challenge.

Took a trip up to Mammoth Hot Springs to spend most of the day in the northern park where the changing vistas were remarkable. It is amazing how much can change in fifty miles.

The highlight of our day- meeting a black bear so close that pictures were difficult to get.  Literally feet away as we slowly passed while in the safety of our vehicle.  And of course a bison did the exact same thing but hey - they own this park, we are just visiting.

Montana-Wyoming 2017 day three https://cmkdigitalmemories.zenfolio.com/blog/2017/10/montana-wyoming-2017-day-threet Wow-is the best word to describe the beauty of Yellowstone National Park. Starting out at 20 degrees on a beautiful fall morning, there were spectacular sites at every turn.

Immediately upon starting out, we encountered the Madison River herd of Elk where a nice bull Elk watched over a herd of 11 cows. A lady's man!  The sounds of a elk bugle will never be forgotten. Through the sweeping valleys and numerous thermals as we covered a large portion of the park, it is amazing that we have preserved this great land.

Patience was tested as we watched two bald eagles fly and land far away, hoping they would get closer to get a photo; however they were not having it.

Hoping that day four lands the opportunity for bear sightings as we journey up north. Stay tuned!

Montana/Wyoming 2017 day two https://cmkdigitalmemories.zenfolio.com/blog/2017/10/montana/wyoming-2017-day-two Traveled from Bozeman to West Yellowstone down Hwy 191, a scenic route that follows the Gallatin River and is nestled in the Gallatin Range. Throughout the 90 mile journey, light snow fell intensifying the beauty of the picturesque mountains and river bed.

Took a couple of side trips to Big Sky and Lone Mtn where the snowfall from the night before was stunning. Also, a short excursion to Quake Lake, created after an earthquake struck on August 17, 1959.

Took advantage of daylight and entered YNP at the West entrance for a couple of hours to explore and get the lay of the land. Again, the stunning vistas cannot be adequately explained as numerous herds of bison were grazing to prepare for the cold fall night ahead. The Madison river allowed a number of photo opportunities including the Madison Elk Herd that included 11 females and one bull elk close by. Also, a lone trumpeter swan stood motionless in the fast moving waters.

Made it to the Midway Geyser Basin where the thermals were very active and drawing a large crowd of tourist.

High temp - 39 degrees

Montana/Wyoming 2017 https://cmkdigitalmemories.zenfolio.com/blog/2017/10/montana/wyoming-2017 First time traveling to this beautiful part of our country. Spent afternoon learning lay of land near Bozeman before heading down to West Yellowstone on Monday.

Traveled over to Livingston where snow showers were persistent at Bozeman Pass.  Not enough to hamper travel but unique as I have never seen snow on October 1.  36 degrees and a breeze.

Traveled south of Livingston and began to witness the beautiful vistas along route 89.  The Yellowstone River afforded frequent stops to admire the landscape. The Absaroka Range with Black Mt., and Mt. Cowan provided a great backdrop with snow clouds covering the horizon.

No wildlife seen but that will change as we get closer to Yellowstone.
